“Odesa was hell tonight,” said MP Oleksi Goncharenko

Last night, the Russian army shelled the city of Odessa for the second day in a row, in an attack which many residents of the city described on social media as “massive” and of which the consequences or the number and type of missiles used are still unknown.

“The enemy is launching another air attack to the south,” the Southern Command of the Ukrainian military announced in a brief note, explaining that air defenses had been activated to deal with this new missile launch.

Oleksi Goncharenko wrote on his Twitter account: “Odessa was hell tonight, many missiles, many drones. Probably the most massive attack of all.” Goncharenko stressed that “there will be official information from the Air Force in the morning.”

Odessa had already come under attack early Tuesday with six Kalibr cruise missiles and several Shahed kamikaze drones that were intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses but damaged port infrastructure as their debris fell after the interception.

Russia announced on Monday that it would not renew the so-called grain agreement that allowed Ukrainian ships to export grain through the Black Sea. The port of Odesa was one of the three ports from which the export of grain was allowed.
