He took the keys, pressed the gas and he was gone: a boy (13) is making headlines in Germany. The boy travels in his grandfather’s Mercedes and has been missing for three days. As the police announced in Neuruppin on Monday, the boy visited his grandfather in the municipality of Glienicke/Nordbahn at the weekend. Apparently he took the car key unnoticed and then drove away on Sunday afternoon – with a lot of horsepower under the hood. Because: The car is a black Mercedes E 350 (350 hp!) with automatic transmission, as the “image” reports.
‘My colleagues could no longer take him in’
According to the information, acquaintances saw him with the vehicle in the city on Sunday. He has been missing ever since and the search for him continued. The police almost stopped him. A patrol saw the Mercedes driving on the Autobahn and tried to stop the car. The boy would follow the officers to a rest area. The 13-year-old gave in and actually drove after the police. But instead of stopping, the boy suddenly accelerated and ran. “The colleagues could no longer record him,” says a police spokesman for “Bild”.
The runaway is known to the police and is housed in a youth care center. It is unclear where the boy wants to go. It’s unclear how full the Mercedes’ tank was when the boy got in and drove off. However, the police hope that the journey will not take much longer because he runs out of gas. (jmh/AFP)
