The student movement ‘Fridays for Future’, founded in 2018, is making a name for itself with peaceful climate strikes.

The “last generation” climate activists have been omnipresent in the media for months with their roadblocks and property damage.

The group “Fridays for Future” is also committed to saving the climate. However, this relies less on radical actions and more on peaceful demonstrations. Pupils and students in particular are involved in this.

“High Participation Civil Disobedience”

As the “world” reports, this should now change from a climate glue point of view. Because for the “last generation” the student movement is not radical enough. An internal strategy paper from «Ultima Generazione», the Italian equivalent of «Last Generation», reveals plans for an increasing radicalization of «Fridays for Future».

The paper, titled “Procedures to Engage Fridays For Future in Civil Resistance,” outlines a plan to transform the student movement into a “low-to-medium but high-participation civil disobedience group” over the next two years.

In Italy, according to the group, the plan has already worked in some places. During protests in September 2022, Italian “Fridays For Future” activists set up roadblocks, threw paint at ministries and bank buildings or allowed themselves to be arrested.

More success thanks to the network

But apparently the members of the “Ultima Generazione” have bigger things in mind. Their aim is that the process for infiltrating “Fridays For Future” will be different from “everyone else”. projects of the A22 network » can be copied. The A22 network is an association of radical climate activists. In addition to the “Last Generation”, for example, the British group “Just Stop Oil” in addition.

The strategy note shows step by step how the influence should work. First, each member of an A22 group must contribute the mobile phone number of a “Fridays for Future” member. These numbers and other contact information are then collected in a database. According to this, especially those people should be invited to a “first meeting” with the “last generation” who are left out in “Fridays For Future” and do not have much to say in the group.

Aimed at frustrated climate activists

The main focus of the meeting will then be how civil resistance strategies can also be implemented in “Fridays For Future”. So-called moderators should pay close attention to what is being said and whether there are young people who are frustrated and therefore open to civil resistance. These must then be used for the radical actions of the «last generation». The plan of the “Ultima Generazione”: Slowly but surely gaining more sympathy and thus “starting the process of radicalization of Fridays For Future”. (ceded)
