The German driver Angelika H.* (31) captured four people on July 6 in the Italian town of Santo Stefano di Cadore. Three people – a father, his two-year-old son and the grandmother – did not survive the serious crash.
Angelika H. is currently in the women’s prison on the island of Giudecca off Venice awaiting trial. Meanwhile, new details about the death ride keep coming to light.
A new surveillance video shows the Audi A3 shortly before the crash. Angelika H. comes running at high speed, turns in the square in front of a car repair shop.
Relatives speak of “massacre”
The entire turning maneuver takes only a few seconds. Then you hear how the engine revs up and Angelika H. rushes back towards the city center. The fatal accident takes place a few hundred meters later.
While the public prosecutor’s office is investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, the relatives of the victims of the accident gathered on Friday for the funeral of the three deceased. As the newspaper “Bild” reports, the relatives spoke of a “bloodbath”.
The newspaper writes that the high speed of H’s car is particularly problematic for them. According to calculations by the Public Prosecution Service, the German should have had a speedometer between 70 and 90 km/h in built-up areas.
Speaking at a media conference in the city of Belluno on Tuesday, Investigative Prosecutor Paolo Luca said no intent was assumed at this time. “An outburst of anger, the cause of which we do not know, is more likely.” H. is thus “a person who cannot restrain his anger”.
If Angelika H. is convicted, according to the newspaper, she risks up to 18 years in prison – and possibly even more if her intentions are proven. (zis)
