Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu passed out at home on Saturday. According to the Jerusalem Post, the 73-year-old regained consciousness before being taken to hospital. The prime minister has to stay in bed overnight for observation. The reason for the collapse: probably severe sunstroke due to the unusual heat that is currently also hitting already hot Israel.
“That Wasn’t a Good Idea”
In a short video clip released in the evening, the prime minister addressed the public from the hospital north of Tel Aviv with tips on how to avoid heat exhaustion like the one he just suffered.
On Friday he and his wife spent some time in Kinneret on the Sea of Galilee – “in the sun, hatless and waterless. That was not a good idea.”
“I have a request for all of you,” Netanyahu continued, looking at the camera. “We’re going through a severe heat wave across the country, so I’m asking all of you to spend less time in the sun and drink more water.” (kes)
