Activists of the last generation stormed the runways of the German cities of Hamburg and Düsseldorf on Thursday. There the climate protectors stick to the runways. Several flights were canceled in the middle of the holiday period.

It may not have been the group’s last protest this week. Because: Before Friday, the activists have announced actions across the country. The climate stickers say they want to shut down car traffic in 26 cities.

Numerous protests took place on Friday in Berlin, Braunschweig, Dresden, Freiburg, Leipzig, Munich, Nuremberg, Potsdam and Ulm, among others. In the German capital, several people had clung to the asphalt at the Siegessäule.

During a blockade in Dresden, the activists provoked with a banner. Inscription: “We are breaking the law”, which means in particular the law on climate protection. They wore masks depicting members of the federal government – such as Chancellor Olaf Scholz (64), Economics Minister Robert Habeck (53) or Transport Minister Volker Wissing (53).

What is the planning of the last generation?

The reason for the new wave of protests is the German government’s insufficient commitment to less climate-damaging greenhouse gases, especially in transportation, from the point of view of the last generation. This was announced by a spokesperson at the request of the German press agency dpa. “Tomorrow there will be a special protest photo that provides insight into the violation of the law by the government,” said the spokesperson.

The group accuses Transport Minister Volker Wissing of not immediately submitting a program to comply with the maximum amounts of the Climate Protection Act, while this is required by law. When and where the actions will take place is still unclear.

Painted private jet

On Thursday morning, activists demolished the runways of Düsseldorf and Hamburg airports without permission and paralyzed air traffic with blockades in the middle of the holiday period. For months, the movement has been trying to make its demands known by sticking them on streets or buildings.

Alternatively, buildings or private jets have also been sprayed with paint. Those affected by the protests sometimes react aggressively to the actions. An activist was hit by a truck during a protest in Stralsund on Wednesday.

Climate activists are now banned from the island

The climate stickers also blocked traffic in the direction of Switzerland in Konstanz on Tuesday. The result was long traffic jams and angry drivers. “Everything is completely tight,” a reader reporter told Blick.
