Due to the suspicion of attempted murder with rat poison on three people, a 62-year-old must answer to the court in Hanover. According to a court spokeswoman, the musician of the Schleswig-Holstein Symphony Orchestra denied through his lawyers at the start of the trial on Monday that he wanted to kill his mother and two colleagues with poison.

According to the indictment, during a visit to a retirement home in Hanover, he allegedly mixed the poison brodifacoum into his mother’s food to kill her. In addition, the suspect is said to have given two fellow musicians, a man and a woman, a garlic dip mixed with the poison during a concert tour.

All three then suffered from a blood clotting disorder, from which they could have died, according to the indictment. Brodifacoum is a highly toxic chemical compound. The odorless powder is used as poison against rodents.

According to the spokeswoman, the defense has announced a detailed statement on the charges for the next day of the trial in two weeks. A psychiatric expert is also expected. The hearings are scheduled until the end of September. (AFP)
