Two-year-old boy among the victims: German driver drives into family in Italy

A 31-year-old German woman crashed her car into a family in northern Italy on Thursday afternoon, killing three people: the grandmother, the father and a two-year-old boy.

The two adults died at the scene of the accident, while the toddler died of his injuries in a helicopter on the way to hospital.

The mother was slightly injured. The grandfather traveled a distance from the family and was therefore unharmed. However, he went into shock and had to be taken to hospital.

She drove at high speed

According to the Carabinieri of Santo Stefano di Cadore, the woman was arrested on Thursday evening after the accident. She is in custody and charged with multiple traffic fatalities.

According to media reports, the woman was driving at high speed in a town near the Austrian border.
