Dozens of people have been injured in a bus crash in New York.

In New York, a violent accident took place on Thursday evening between a double-decker sightseeing bus and a scheduled bus. Dozens of people were injured. This has been announced by the fire department of the American metropolis.

At least 18 injured people have been taken to hospitals, but no one is in a life-threatening condition. Other sources, on the other hand, speak of 55 injured. The accident happened on First Avenue near the Gramercy Park neighborhood, New York Fire Department Deputy Chief Kevin Murphy said. Photos showed how the open double-decker bus collided with the bus from behind.

Both buses are full

Both buses were apparently full, said deputy chief of emergency services for the fire department, Paul Hopper. The rescue service took 18 people to nearby hospitals and treated 63 people at the scene of the accident. The injuries are mainly cuts, bruises, scrapes, possibly broken bones and head and neck injuries.

Murphy said firefighters had to use ropes and ladders to get passengers out of the double-decker bus because one of the doors was damaged. The fire service initially gave no information about the cause of the accident. The nationalities of the injured were also initially unknown. (SDA)
