Among the metropolitan areas in the United States, Washington DC is not a problem when it comes to urban drug use. A recent report from the American Center for Drug Addiction concludes that the capital ranks last in overall illicit substance use.

Now, however, an illegal substance has been discovered in Washington on a rather high street number: 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. There is none other than the American president in the house. It’s the address of the White House.

Secret Service security forces, i.e. the president’s bodyguard, found a suspicious substance in Joe Biden’s home on Sunday night. It was a white powder that turned out to be cocaine after an initial test. American media, including the renowned Washington Post, report this.

Fund was created in the west wing

The find immediately caused alarm in the White House. Biden’s official residence was evacuated for a short time and specialists from the Washington Fire Department were deployed. Anthony Guglielmi, the Secret Service spokesman, said the powder needed further investigation and was found “in a work area in the West Wing.” However, there was no danger from the substance.

According to the Washington Post, the president was not in the house when it was found. He did not want to give any information about the nature of the substance. However, as the newspaper claims to have learned from a radio message from the fire department, a rapid test gave a positive result for cocaine.

The four-story west wing is considered the centerpiece of the sprawling presidential residence. Not only Biden has his office here, but also the vice presidents, chief of staff and press secretary, as well as other senior members of the presidential administration. (t-online, cc)
