Such videos are currently going viral on social media from several beaches. They show sharks very close to shore or in the middle of bathing crowds, for example at Navarre Beach or Perdido Key last Sunday, July 2.
Not an uncommon phenomenon
Such encounters are not uncommon, the New York Post quotes marine biologist Kennady Brinley as saying. Sharks are seen more often in June than any other month, so many still fit into the picture in early July. “Environmental factors drive schools of fish closer to shore and the sharks follow them.” What you see in the video is typical feeding and hunting behavior and is almost never dangerous to humans.
