Amusement park visitor saw crack in roller coaster – while still active Violent protests in France – dead man’s mother led march

At Carowinds amusement park in Charlotte, North Carolina, a visitor made a shocking discovery on June 30: While waiting for his kids, he noticed a huge crack in a roller coaster support column. And on the track, the filled wagons whizzed non-stop over the rails. Here the video:

Jeremy Wagner, the name of the visitor who discovered the damage, shared the video on Facebook. He immediately showed it to the park operators and later also to the fire brigade because the railway was initially still in operation.

The park has since closed the ride, dubbed Fury 325. On their website, Carowinds advertises them as the tallest, longest, and fastest gigacoaster in North America. That’s how it got its name – it’s 325 feet long and takes 3:25 minutes to travel at a top speed of 150 miles per hour. The ride opened in 2015 and is said to have cost about $30 million.

Safety as top priority

“Carowinds” later announced that the track was closed after the crack was discovered. The maintenance team will perform a thorough inspection and the ride will remain closed until the repair is completed. Safety has the highest priority.

“As part of our extensive safety protocols,” the statement continued, “all rides, including the Fury 325, are inspected daily to ensure their proper operation and structural integrity.” It is unclear why the crack was not found before commissioning on June 30. It is also not clear how long the repair will take. The rest of the park will remain open until then, Carowinds said. (lzo)
