“We are shocked” – Rishi Sunak furious with the “cheapest bottle of wine” for the school lottery “We are shocked” – Rishi Sunak furious with the “cheapest bottle of wine” for the school lottery

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has sparked outrage by donating a £10 bottle of wine to a school lottery in his constituency. “Honestly, we are shocked,” Mel Wise, president of the school’s association, told the Sunday Mirror newspaper. ‘Apparently the children in his constituency are worth ten pounds to him.’ The newspaper reported that it was the cheapest bottle of wine on sale in British supermarkets. Sunak had signed the label.

The 43-year-old is considered the richest head of government in British history, also due to the wealth of his wife Akshata Murty. The pair recently donated millions of dollars to Murty’s former US university and £100,000 to Sunak’s former elite school.

Wise stressed that she was not asking for thousands. “But anything over ten pounds that we could have auctioned would have been good.” Leyburn primary school in northern England needs £10,000 to replace 15-year-old computers for all children. (sda/dpa)
