“He is like a child who constantly tests his parents”says Republican Chris Christie of his former friend and confidant Donald Trump. Since Christie threw in his hat for the presidential nomination, he has been outspoken about his views on Trump.
This time he caused a sensation in an interview with the American broadcaster CNN. Christie is targeting not just Trump — but also Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. He also wants to secure a seat in the White House for the Republicans.
Chris Christie accuses Trump of storming the US Capitol
“Whenever he feels cornered, he makes up a story,” Christie says of Trump. That reminds him of the time when he didn’t want to hand out his tax returns. He claimed he was being tested and therefore couldn’t. And that was a completely made-up story,” he says.
He also accuses Trump of complicity in the violent storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Because he allegedly sat carefree in front of the screen and ate a hamburger.

Trump’s criminal liability in connection with the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021 is currently under review. For Christie, one thing is clear: Trump should have intervened sooner to stop the Maga mutiny. Five people were killed as a result.
Christie says:
CNN journalist Kaitlan Collins shows him a video clip. At an event, a student asks DeSantis if Trump made a mistake here.
DeSantis’ take on January 6 is arguably questionable for Christie
DeSantis insists he was nowhere near Washington D.C. that day and had nothing to do with it. “We have to put that behind us,” he says. But Christie clearly takes this view to heart.
“He wasn’t near Washington? Did he have a TV? Was he alive that day?” he asks, clearly surprised. And explains, “Did he see what was going on? I mean, that’s one of the most ridiculous answers I’ve heard this campaign.”

It is unclear to him how DeSantis could not have an opinion about the storming of the Capitol. Christie emphasizes that people have died protecting the US Capitol.
For Christie, it’s clear: January 6 was one of the most shameful days in American history, and Trump was largely responsible for it. Thus, his lie about the “stolen elections” fed his supporters. Just like his speech the day Trump literally attacked Pence. But what Christie mainly reproaches: the passivity of the ex-president.
“Even family members urged him to come out and speak out,” says Christie. But he declined because he liked what happened, Trump’s former confidante says.
