The search for the missing submarine “Titan” came to an end last week: the submarine collapsed under the immense water pressure and imploded. All passengers of the Titan were killed instantly. This is evident from the debris found on Thursday about 500 meters from the bow of the Titanic – at a depth of 3800 meters.
But the sad certainty wasn’t just hard for the Titan passengers’ relatives to deal with. The head of the search team also bursts into tears when he tells about the disaster. First reported “Daily Mail”.
The rescue team is exhausted
On June 18, Edward Cassano, general manager of Pelagic Research Services, was tasked with rescuing the missing submarine. The company must search for the missing submarine with their remote-controlled deep-sea vehicle. At best, they would have found the submarine early enough and pulled the deep-sea vehicle to the surface as quickly as possible. Instead, only rubble was found.
As soon as it became clear that it was no longer a rescue operation but a salvage operation, Cassano contacted the families of the Titan crew. “We are very sad that we were not able to save the submarine,” said Cassano. As he addresses the crowd, he gets emotional: “There are a lot of emotions involved. Many are exhausted.”
RC rescue submarine lost
However, other companies such as Deep Energy were also involved in the rescue of the tourist submarine. According to Cassano, the partner company would have lost one of its two lifeboats. It was sent to the bottom of the sea, although it can only descend to a depth of 2700 meters.
Canadian police are investigating
Canadian police are now checking to see if any “criminal or federal regulations” were violated leading up to the accident. In addition, an investigation is being conducted into the circumstances that led to the death of the five crew members. This should serve as a basis for deciding “whether a comprehensive investigation is warranted or not”.
“Suspected human remains” have been found in the wreckage of the Titan submarine, the US Coast Guard said Wednesday. Several parts of the ship had been raised ashore, including the bow of the submarine and a large plate that appeared to be coming off the stern. Years before the implosion, experts had warned that the submarine would not be able to safely reach the Titanic’s wreckage on the seafloor. (lia/nad)
