A seven-year-old child fell into the water from the “Stena Spirit” ferry on Thursday afternoon and his mother then jumped after it, rescue director Anders Lännholm told Sweden’s TT news agency.

So the ferry was about halfway between Karlskrona in southern Sweden and Gdansk in Poland. In addition to rescue helicopters and the ferry itself, NATO troops who were in the area for an exercise also took part in the search.
