“I wouldn’t put your hands in it,” his buddy warns him. But the young man doesn’t care about the warning. “Ah, two seconds isn’t that bad,” the American replies as he dips his hands in the water to wash himself.

He bends over the edge of the boat, puts his left hand in the water, then his right hand. Almost immediately, a shark bites his right hand and drags the man headfirst into the water. The fisherman shouts loudly.

Friends scream in panic

“Get him, get him, get him!” screams a friend of the victim in panic, while his little girl fears for his survival in the water. Another person yells, “Oh my God!” The attacked one is lucky, the shark lets go and the man can get to safety with the help of his friends.

A relaxed fishing trip can quickly turn into a real horror. The terrifying scene was shot in the Everglades in the US state of Florida, a national park in a gigantic wetland.

“could have been prevented”

Michael Russo, who filmed the scene, told Florida’s Instagram account that the group quickly returned to shore after the shocking incident.

“He was returned to the dock and the rangers were (literally) lifesavers,” Russo wrote. “He was flown to hospital and is in the best possible care.” It was one of the scariest days on the water he has ever experienced. Russo added that there was no blood in the water before the attack, but the shark attacked anyway.

The exact extent of his friend’s injuries is unclear. Russo warned followers of the “Florida” account. “The sharks in the Everglades are no joke and the warnings to keep your hands out of the water are not exaggerated,” he wrote. “Take this as a lesson and keep your hands out of the water, because this could have been avoided.”
