A child and an adult were killed in an accident during an excursion with an excavator in Toppenstedt (Harburg district).
Ten other children were injured on Saturday night, some seriously, four of them had to be taken to clinics by helicopter, a spokesperson for the fire service told the German news agency.
The accident happened at a tent camp organized by fathers with their children in kindergarten. One group was driven down a dirt road by an excavator “for fun”. The people were in a kind of lattice box that the wheel loader had lifted. The accident happened when the box – probably due to a technical defect – broke and fell to the ground, according to the fire service spokesperson. Whether children are in danger, the spokesperson could not say.
According to a police spokesperson, it was probably caused by a ruptured hydraulic hose. The people were in a lattice box that had been transported by an excavator, a Harburg police spokesman said Saturday night. A hydraulic hose on the vehicle ruptured, causing the bucket to detach from the excavator and fall down. Some people were buried under the coffin. The exact process is still unclear
