The well-known Russian government critic Mikhail Khodorkovsky (59) called on the Russians to support mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin in his fight against the army leadership. “We have to help now, and then we will also fight this (man) if necessary,” the Kremlin critic wrote in online media on Saturday night.
“Even the devil” deserves support when he fights against “this regime”. “And yes – this is just the beginning,” wrote the exiled Khodorkovsky.
FSB calls on mercenaries to arrest Prigozhin
According to his information, fighters from Prigozhin’s Wagner mercenary force marched from Ukraine to the Russian border area of Rostov on the night after the mercenary chief called for an uprising against the army command in Moscow. Prigozhin had previously accused Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, 68, of ordering rocket attacks against his troops that killed numerous Wagner mercenaries.
The Russian prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into “armed insurrection”. The Russian domestic secret service FSB accused Prigozhin of calling for a “civil war” and called on his mercenaries to capture their boss. Security measures in Moscow have been tightened, according to state media. The governor of the Lipetsk region, 420 kilometers south of Moscow, also announced ‘tightened security measures’ in the night and called on the population to calm down. (AFP)
