The Turkish secret service claims to have killed a high-ranking leader of the outlawed Kurdish Workers’ Party PKK. As state news agency Anadolu reported on Friday, Abdurrahman Cadirci was “neutralized” during an operation in northern Syria.
According to information from the German news agency, the attack took place on June 14 in a rural area of the Syrian province of Aleppo. Security sources confirmed that a senior Kurdish leader was killed. According to information from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Cadirci, as a politician, would have belonged to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The Turkish army regularly cracks down on Kurdish militias in the southeast of the country, in Syria and northern Iraq. The PKK is also considered a terrorist organization in the US and Europe. Their headquarters are located in the inaccessible Kandil Mountains in northern Iraq. Turkey occupies areas in northern Syria.
