In Pakistan, a religious teacher allegedly raped and murdered an eight-year-old student. The boy succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Lahore on Tuesday, a police officer said.
The alleged perpetrator was arrested and confessed to the crime – a DNA test should follow.
According to the police in the metropolis, the teacher at an Islamic seminary raped the boy in his sleep at the beginning of June. When he resisted, the priest allegedly used violence. To cover up his crime, the man threw the young student off the roof of the school. The child suffered serious injuries and was in a coma until his death.
The Pakistani children’s rights organization Sahil complained that perpetrators often went unpunished. “Incidents of child sexual abuse have increased recently,” said Waqas Hameed, a spokesman for Sahil. Children aged 6 to 15, especially boys, are at particular risk. According to an annual report by Sahil, more than 4,000 cases of child abuse and more than 80 rape-related murders were reported in 2022. (saw/sda/dpa)
