Titan: Landing gear and rear deck found

The US Coast Guard announced Thursday that they found some “debris” near the area where the remains of the Titanic were found and where searches are being conducted to locate the missing submarine with five people on board.

The US Coast Guard made the announcement on Twitter “discovered a debris field within the search area near the Titanic”which is located at a depth of about 3,800 meters.

Later, David Mearns, an expert and friend of the CEO of Ocean Gate, confirmed to the BBC that the remains belonged to the Titan submarine.

“I have identified the landing gear and the rear cover,” the expert told the British paper.

According to Mearns, these details were provided to him by the president of the Explorers Club, an organization that is in communication with rescue teams and to which belong two passengers who traveled on Titan, the British Hamish Harding and the French Paul-Henry Nargeolet.

Some experts speculate that the submarine may have suffered a catastrophic implosion as a result of hull failure.

The minivan-sized submarine is owned by the private company OceanGate Expeditions.

Co-founder of the company, William Sohnlein, He told the BBC he believed there may have been an “instantaneous implosion” of the craft.

“If it had happened, it would have happened that way four days ago“, He said.

The search for the Titan submarine continues Thursday despite the fact that, according to Coast Guard calculations, it may have already run out of oxygen.
