The AfD wants to further sharpen its position on the European Union (EU). The “Welt” reports this with reference to the main application of the Federal Program Commission for the European election program, which will be adopted at the end of July at the AfD party conference in Magdeburg. Accordingly, the AfD is seeking “the orderly dissolution of the EU”. Instead, she wants to “create a new European economic and interest community, a federation of European nations”.
“Our patience with the EU has run out,” the application said, according to “Welt”. The EU is “not reformable in the AfD sense”. The Federal Program Committee consists of party leaders Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla, representatives of the parliamentary group, the European Group and all state associations, as well as the chairpersons of the specialized committees.
“The EU and the globalist elites that support it” said goodbye many years ago to the “original idea of the founding fathers of a European community,” the “world” continued to quote from the application. The EU has “developed into an undemocratic construct” that attracts more and more violence and is run by an “opaque, uncontrolled bureaucracy”.
According to the AfD, the decision on a “new form of coexistence among the peoples of Europe” in Germany can only be taken through a referendum. The party also wants to abolish the EU Parliament. In its current lead motion, the AfD Federal Program Commission continues to call for a referendum on Germany’s stay in the EU.
The next European elections will take place from 6 to 9 June 2024. In the last EU elections, the AfD received 11 percent of the vote in Germany, making it the fourth strongest party after the CDU, Greens and SPD. The AfD currently has nine members of the European Parliament.
