Shortly before her own funeral, the elderly woman shocked those at her wake. A video posted to Twitter shows the 76-year-old breathing heavily in her open coffin as two men help her. Ecuadorian media celebrated the unusual incident as a “resurrection” of the woman.
But she didn’t have long in this world. Montoya died a week after her “resurrection”. “This time my mother really died,” Gilbert Barbera told El Universo newspaper. He prayed that his mother’s health would improve and that she would live a long time. This wish was not granted.

After his mother was pronounced dead a week ago, he had to arrange a coffin donation for the impoverished family.
According to the health ministry, Montoya was taken to hospital with a suspected stroke, went into cardiac arrest and failed to respond to CPR measures, so the doctor on duty pronounced her dead.
