Austria’s former foreign minister wants to help Putin justify war After the SVP scandal: These right-wing parties in Europe are behind Selenskyj – and they’re not

Karin Kneissl, 58, gets a new job: to justify Vladimir Putin’s brutal war against Ukraine. A shine.

The former Austrian foreign minister Karin Kneissl once thought it quite normal to kneel before her wedding guest, Vladimir Putin. Now the 58-year-old Viennese went one step further.

Former minister Kneissl danced with Putin – now she writes for RT Ottina, Ottis "sister in destiny" a Russian troll? That can be funny. In that case Putin is not so humorous...

As if she had just been brainwashed, Kneissl recently acted like Putin’s propaganda parrot during panel discussions at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum. She reaffirmed her appreciation for Russian despotism and her contempt for the democratic West.

Without any semblance of evidence, she claimed that Russians in Austria were not treated by doctors because they were Russians. And: More and more citizens in the West are attracted to Russia because they are tired of “that their daily lives are determined by certain minorities”. According to Kneissl’s logic, frustrated Westerners would rather let a dictator rule their daily lives because he is kind enough to strip them of all rights.

She too is “seriously considering moving to Russia” after being “thrown out of the European Union” last year and therefore wants to be recognized as a “political refugee”. Just a false perversion of the fact that she voluntarily emigrated to Lebanon after losing the lucrative board position at the sanctioned Russian oil giant Rosneft.

Why they are really attracted to Moscow

The real reason Kneissl wants to go Russian: she gets the job as director of a new think tank called “Gorki”. Their goal: to give (pseudo-)scientific legitimacy to Putin’s criminal war against Ukraine and his delusion of the resurrection of the Greater Russian Empire.

The only question is, why does an essentially intelligent woman, who studied law and Arabic, made a career as a diplomat, and speaks six languages, talk so many confused things? And why does she worship a despot whose hands are dripping with the blood of thousands of innocent people? Obvious diagnosis: loss of reality, cynical opportunism, greed.

She is looking forward to the Russian passport, Kneissl said, but wants to keep the Austrian passport and apply for dual citizenship. Probably as a reassurance – you never know with Putin … (aargauerzeitung.ch)
