Following the knife attack on four young children and two adults in eastern France, the perpetrator has reportedly been transferred to a psychiatric hospital.

The French broadcaster France Info and the Sunday newspaper “Le Journal du Dimanche” reported that the man had been taken to a special section of a clinic not far from Lyon. Further details were initially unknown.

The 31-year-old Syrian, who had lived in Sweden for years, attacked four children between 22 months and 3 years old and two adults with a knife on a playground in the eastern French city of Annecy last Thursday. Two children and an adult were fighting for their lives after the attack. All victims are now out of danger.

The prosecution said last weekend that a psychiatrist had initially found no clear evidence of delusions. However, it is still too early to judge whether the perpetrator has a mental illness or not. The man has been arrested for attempted murder. He was silent about his motive. Initially, the detectives saw no indications of terrorist motives. (aeg/sda/dpa)
