Done with restraint: the document affair prompts Mike Pence to sharply criticize Donald Trump.

Former US Vice President Mike Pence (64) criticized ex-President Donald Trump (77), who was accused of the secret paper affair, in an unusually harsh manner. “No one is above the law,” Pence said Wednesday on CNBC. “These allegations contain serious allegations,” and he “cannot defend the conduct described in the document.”

“Dealing with classified documents is a very serious business,” Pence, who, like his former boss Trump, wants to run in the 2024 presidential election, told CNBC. Highly sensitive secret documents could “fall into the wrong hands”, endangering US national security and US soldiers. At the same time, the Vice President for 2017 and 2021 partially agreed with Trump’s accusation that the charges against the ex-president were politically motivated.

Trump pleads not guilty

Trump pleaded not guilty to all 37 charges in an initial court hearing on Tuesday. The former president and main contender for the Republican presidential nomination is charged with, among other things, illegally keeping classified files in his private residence Mar-a-Lago in Florida and conspiracy to obstruct justice. Trump took the White House documents to Mar-a-Lago at the end of his term in January 2021.

Trump has denied the allegations, describing the allegations as an attempt by his successor Joe Biden’s administration to politically neutralize him. After the court hearing, the right-wing populist spoke on Tuesday evening about the “most evil and horrific abuse of power in the history of our country”. Many Republicans have endorsed the ex-president’s allegations.

Fox shocked with “wannabe dictator” fader

Meanwhile, the right-wing news channel Fox News caused a sensation. On Tuesday night, during a live broadcast of Biden and Trump speeches, he blurted out the phrase “would-be dictator speaks at White House after his political rival is arrested.”

This resulted in numerous critical comments on online platforms. Twitter users called the phrase “ridiculous,” “incredible,” and proof that Fox News is a “Republican propaganda machine.” One user suggested that Biden sue the right-wing broadcaster. (AFP)
