In Belgium, a man faked his death – and surprised the participants of the funeral service arranged for him. It was a big performance: David Baerten landed with a helicopter, including the film crew. This is reported, among others, by the British Daily Mail.
The background: The 45-year-old wanted to “teach his family a lesson” about keeping in touch. Previously, the TikToker had only revealed his wife and their children. His daughter even helped him to carry out the plan as credibly as possible.

To mislead his 162,000 followers, she posted statements such as ‘rest in peace dad. I will never stop thinking about you” or “Why is life so unfair? Why you?”. Many of the funeral guests welcomed Beards with cheers. However, after the action came strong criticism, especially on social media, so that the 45-year-old was forced to explain his motives.
In his own words, he came up with the idea because he wanted to see the reaction of his estranged family. He wanted to teach them a lesson about the importance of staying in touch before it’s too late. “What I see in my family often hurts me,” he said. “I’ve never been invited to anything. Nobody sees me. We’re all far away. I didn’t feel valued,” said Baerten.
Only half of his family showed up for the funeral, but the rest of the family has since come forward. It showed “who he really cares about” and in a way it felt like a triumph for him, the 45-year-old said. Some of his fans agreed that this was “a valuable life lesson” for his family. He should ignore negative reactions.
