At least 32 people have been killed in a shipwreck off the coast of Greece. About 100 people were rescued after the fishing boat capsized in international waters in the Ionian Sea, the Greek coastguard said on Wednesday. The rescue operation was hampered by strong winds.
Navy boats, a military aircraft and a helicopter took part in the rescue operation. The action started “very early” on Wednesday after the boat capsized, the Coast Guard said.
No one was wearing life jackets
According to the information, the European border authority Frontex spotted the boat on Tuesday afternoon. No one on board was wearing life jackets. The boat probably started in Libya and was on its way to Italy.
