The scenes are gruesome: the young man calls for help in the water, a shark’s fin can be seen, the predator repeatedly circles around its victim until it is finally pulled under the water.
The victim is the Russian Vladimir P.*, who still desperately enlists the help of his father. He has to watch everything helplessly on the beach. He tells “Bild”: “It all happened very quickly, literally in 20 seconds.” He had bought his son an apartment in Egypt so that he would not have to go to war.
‘I saw that he no longer had an arm’
One of the first to help Wladimir P. was lifeguard Mohamed H. He initially thought that the man could not swim. As he approaches by boat, he sees the horror.
The traumatized Mohamed tells “Bild”: “When I got to the man, the water was full of blood. Then I saw that he had no arm left. And then the shark. I knew immediately that he was beyond saving. ”
Shark cut open
The shark apparently did not move away after the attack, but remained close to the beach. Fishermen circled him and were able to catch him with a net. At first they thought they had caught a heavily pregnant woman because the belly was so big.
When they cut the animal, the shock followed: According to “Al Arabiya”, they found the head, arms and parts of the upper body of Vladimir P. The shark is now being examined at the Marine Biological Institute.
The Red Sea is a popular destination for divers, among others. Shark attacks are rare there. However, deadly attacks occasionally occur. Two women, including an Austrian, were killed in a shark attack last summer. In 2018 a tourist from the Czech Republic died, in 2015 a German. (new)
