Maksim Gavrylenko (17) moved to Scotland in 2021 to attend the prestigious Lomond School. In the same year, for the equivalent of about 1,100 francs, he bought a little-used server on which friends can play the computer game Minecraft together.

After the purchase, Gavrylenko and some of his friends made many changes to the server, creating a comfortable environment for gamers. This led to more people and advertisers being lured to the server – and the value of the server rose sharply.

“Will Be Worth the Hours”

Finally, in May 2023, Gavrylenko received an offer to buy the server, which he and his friends accepted, as the Lomond School writes on its website. The amount is not disclosed. However, the offer was “very lucrative”.

The Ukrainian already knows what he wants to do with the proceeds: “My mother had to flee from home due to the war and became homeless. Buying her an apartment is worth all the hours I put into this project,” said the 17-year-old.

Johanna Urquhart, the director of the Lomond School, is delighted with Gavrylenko’s achievement. Everyone at the school is “excited about the achievements at their young age”.

Next, Gavrylenko wants to study

Gavrylenko is currently waiting for the results of his two-year course at the Scottish school. Although he has already proven his entrepreneurial talent, he would like to study business administration at a university after leaving school. “I’ve always had an interest in business.” The teenager has already closed his first big deal.
