It is a true miracle that the four children from Colombia have been able to experience. 40 days after a small plane crashed, the three siblings and a one-year-old toddler were rescued alive from the Colombian rainforest.
While Lesly (13), Soleiny (9), Tien (4) and Cristin (1) were rescued, one is still missing. Since then, there has been no trace of the rescue dog Wilson. This is reported by the Colombian newspaper The City Paper Bogotá.
Wilson led rescuers to the children
So Wilson would have searched for the missing children – and got lost himself. News of the dog’s disappearance sparked a wave of solidarity online. Meanwhile, the hashtag “#WilsonHeroeNacional” (in German: “Wilson, hero of the nation”) was trending.
The Colombian population seems to be very concerned that the dog will be found. According to the tenor, he played a major role in the rescue of the children, which borders on a miracle. “It’s time to look for him in the jungle. Please don’t forget the dog, Mr. President,” one user wrote on Twitter.
Wilson owes his popularity to Colombian president Gustavo Petro (63). According to him, the missing children met a dog during their 40-day odyssey through the jungle. It was probably about Wilson.
During the major search, footprints of the four-legged friend were repeatedly found in the forest. The emergency services eventually led them to the children.
Dog would be lost
However, Wilson has since disappeared. “We tried to catch him, but we didn’t succeed,” said Carlos Villegas, member of the civil defense of the municipality of Rionegro who was involved in the search. They even called in Wilson’s dog handler, but the effort was in vain. “At one point he disappeared. He got lost again and we never saw him again.”
The hope that Wilson will resurface has not yet been given up in Colombia. “Happiness will be complete when our beloved hero Wilson reappears. Animals are heroes. We love you, Wilson,” Colombian Senator Esmeralda Hernández tweeted. (dzc)
