During renovation work on a residential building in Austria, a man was killed by a falling balcony.
The four-meter-long and 12-centimeter-thick concrete slab was not placed properly when the house was built in the 1970s, the Vorarlberg police reported on Wednesday evening. It had only a minor release on a Mauser border and was otherwise unconnected to the building. The accident happened on Wednesday at Tschagguns in Vorarlberg.
The victim was working on the balcony with three friends. The men had erected scaffolding and wanted to repair fragile places, the police said. As the 68-year-old walked under the balcony during a break from work, the slab suddenly crashed and hit him with full force. The friends could have lifted the plate with two jacks and saved the man. But shortly afterwards he died in hospital. (SDA)
