20 years Golf R: In the anniversary year of the sports variant, VW presents the most powerful Golf ever built. The limited special model bears the telling name Golf R 333. The abbreviation not only reveals the quantity of the special edition, but also its performance.
On June 1, VW presented the anniversary model for the first time. Apparently the dealers were in a hurry. VW spokesperson Stefan Voswinkel reports on the LinkedIn platform: The special model is already sold out – in record time: “Okay, that was fast – even for a Golf R. The special model Golf R 333 was sold out after eight (!) minutes . ” And that despite prices from 76,410 euros.
Where the normal Golf R already has 320 hp, the Golf R 333 mobilizes no less than 333 hp. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds, a tenth of a second faster than the standard R version (4.7 seconds).
The engine should respond more spontaneously to accelerator pedal commands. When you operate the DSG dual-clutch transmission in S or S+ mode with the paddle shifters, you feel a jolt when upshifting – feedback from the transmission and powertrain. In addition, the R 333 comes with a Performance package as standard, which includes the two additional driving profiles “Special” and “Drift”.
The whole thing brings measurable improvements: even the “20-Years” edition, launched only a few months ago, covered the Nürburgring race track’s Nordschleife in 7:47.31 minutes. It was four seconds faster than the normal Golf R. The R 333 could not be slower. And you should see that too.
That’s why the special model has a bright yellow metallic finish that stands out clearly against the white, black or blue of the “20-Years” edition. The black aluminum wheels with perforated brake discs immediately catch the eye – just like the large exhaust system from the manufacturer Akrapovic.
The 333 copies will be delivered from October. Each gets a plaque with the serial number on the dashboard.
