Maddie McCann has been wanted for over 16 years. The past few weeks have been more intense than in a long time. Numerous detectives from Germany, Great Britain and Portugal work at the case. Now there is new hope to finally solve her disappearance. Researchers collected soil samples during a three-day search of a remote reservoir in Portugal’s Algarve. The reason: The result could possibly be the crucial puzzle piece that convicts main suspect Christian B.* (46).
The search teams dug holes two meters deep in the bottom of the reservoir to compare them with dirt samples from the German’s van. This is reported by the British newspaper The Mirror.
The police want to use the Earth to prove that B. was at the lake in the days after Maddie’s disappearance.

The convicted rapist stayed in the reservoir several times and is said to describe it as his “little paradise”.
The responsible forensic experts consider the chance of a hit to be high. According to well-informed sources, there are never published photos of B. at the remote reservoir. These photos first drew the attention of the German researchers to the reservoir in the Algarve.
And: Last week it was revealed that shortly after Maddie disappeared in Portugal in 2007, B. would have told his former friend Helge B.* that “she wasn’t screaming”.
Two other areas of focus
During the search, the police also found “a number of other items” that could be related to the girl’s disappearance. According to “The Mirror” sources, the officials’ list includes at least two other areas to be searched for clues.
