He has never defended his arch-competitor like this. Former US President Donald Trump (76) does not think it is a good idea to mock President Joe Biden (80) for his alleged age-related mental decline.
Trump made the comment Thursday at a town hall meeting with Fox News in Iowa. The fall of the president during the Air Force Academy induction ceremony was addressed when Biden tripped over a sandbag and fell.
The fall was “sad” and looked bad, Trump said. He was then asked by moderator Sean Hannity why he is holding back when it comes to making fun of Biden’s declining mental state. “Does anyone agree that this man is cognitively absent?” Hannity asked. “I doubt he knows what day of the week it is.”
“Serious Problem”
Trump declined the invitation to fool Biden. On the contrary. The former president urged his longtime supporter Hannity not to joke about it. Trump said it’s okay to talk about Biden’s cognitive issues. He later explained to the assembled voters, “I said, ‘Frankly, I don’t think it looks good on you or anyone else if you joke about it, because it’s a serious issue.'”
Biden has previously made headlines for his falls, including tripping on the steps of Air Force One in 2021 and falling off his bike in Delaware last summer.
Biden’s mental errors also make headlines again and again. At 80 years old, he is the oldest sitting president in United States history. Trump, who turns 77 next month, would become the oldest president in his second term if he won the 2024 presidential race. (kes)
