Birgit W.* (59) from Cologne had to go through hell because of her doctor. This is reported by the German broadcaster RTL. He allegedly forgot to tell her a “survival test result”.

It all started in December 2019. Birgit W. fell ill and suspected pneumonia. Her doctor examined her and sent her to the radiologist. Then – radio silence from the doctor. For the patient, this means: Everything is fine, she needn’t worry.

Our digestive system is like a tube: what enters through the mouth ends up in the esophagus in the stomach (first sac just below the breast). Then the mush enters the intestine (curled), where the body takes out all the useful substances. Everything that cannot be used is thrown away.

But the disease continues to torment her. Almost two years later, Birgit W. has pain when breathing again. Again she visits her doctor. Instead of lungs, he diagnoses back problems this time.

The prescribed therapies remain unsuccessful. Birgit W. keeps asking her doctor to listen to her lungs. He keeps refusing.

Shock diagnosis – did the doctor forget the findings?

A few months later, the shock: Birgit W. has lung cancer. “Only now does the 59-year-old remember that she was X-rayed at the Radiation Institute in December 2019,” writes RTL. “She requests the report – and comes out of all clouds.” Because: even then a huge shadow appeared in her lungs.

The shadow is also mentioned in other documents of the time. The woman from Cologne now believes that her doctor has forgotten to tell her the important finding. According to RTL, she is now receiving legal advice.

Birgit W. was unlucky: her lung cancer can be treated well despite the late diagnosis. The horrific experience remains. (chs)
