The outgoing head of the University Hospital Zurich sees no end to the shortage of skilled workers. “Currently we have closed 50 beds in nursing posts because of a lack of staff,” says Gregor Zünd.
The university hospital had to raise wages due to a shortage of skilled workers and this continues. “Because the baby boom generation is leaving and the younger generation has different ideas about work and leisure,” Zünd says in an interview with Tamedia published on Thursday.
However, the staff shortage is limited to the intramural ward only. In ambulatory operations, where working hours are regulated and there are no weekend assignments, you do not have this problem.
