Pentecost is just around the corner. We explain why we celebrate it and where it is a holiday.

Pentecost is through May 28, 2023, exactly ten days after Ascension Day. Whit Monday falls on May 29 this year.

The date is different every year and depends on Ascension Day and Easter. Pentecost takes place ten days after Ascension every year. The earliest possible date for Pentecost Sunday is May 10, the latest possible date is June 13.

Ten days after Ascension Pentecost celebrated. On the “fiftieth day” after Easter, the message was given to the disciples that they should spread the teachings of Jesus throughout the world. It is considered the “birth” of the Church.

“All were filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak in tongues as the Spirit prompted them.”

The day on which Pentecost is celebrated differs per year. The date depends on Easter, which is always the first Sunday after the first full moon after the start of spring. Pentecost last fell in 1818 on May 10, the earliest possible date. The next time can’t be until 2285.
