Doctors in China have found a fetus in the brain of a one-year-old. The rare medical phenomenon is a case of “fetus-in-fetu,” according to the report in the journal “Neurology.”

One child was hospitalized with developmental disabilities and a larger head. Then the medics discovered a rare medical phenomenon.

Accordingly, it is a deformed twin of the girl. The one-year-old had motor delays and increased head circumference. At the hospital, doctors then discovered the parasitic twin in her brain and surgically removed it.

The fetus-in-fetu phenomenon is estimated to occur in only one birth in 500,000. However, the fetuses are often trapped in the abdomen and not in the brain.

The rarity, according to one theory, occurs when one fetus is ingested by another fetus during pregnancy in a twin pregnancy. The inserted fetus is then not viable, but can grow uncontrollably. (t online)
