“Heroin chic” and social media – a dangerous combination for teenagers

“Heroin Chic” should be back. The 1990s and early 1990s body trend glorified extremely thin bodies — protruding bones, pale skin, and dark circles under the eyes are considered beautiful. Model Kate Moss has long been considered a symbol of this aesthetic.

Today, it’s women like Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Hailey Bieber who are bringing that body image back.

At the same time, these models are role models for countless young women and girls. In addition, there is social media, where a constant comparison is possible and an often embellished picture of reality is shown.

Helen’s case shows how dangerous this combination can be. To look like her big role models on the catwalk and Instagram, she lost so much weight in a short time that she almost ended up in the hospital.
