Problems with “Who wants to be a millionaire?”: Jauch reveals the correct answer

Friday night’s big “Who wants to be a millionaire?” final attracted five new entrants on Thursday night. Only one person failed to win at least €16,000.

Günther Jauch was allowed to interview another illustrious group on Thursday. For example, Phillipp Rubach tells the quizmaster that he really wants to take over his job. “How fast do you want it?” Günther Jauch asks him. The 26-year-old’s answer: “I’d say two weeks…” He needs a little more time to fine-tune his master’s thesis.

Bad tongues could say after yesterday’s show that there is a reason for a new quizmaster. Because: Jauch happens one thing that should not happen to such a person: he reveals an answer to a candidate.

Jauch just wanted to put his poetry skills to the test. The following question was asked:

Jauch positions himself and quotes the verses from memory: “Sweet, familiar scents waft through the land of mischief. Violets are already dreaming, want to come soon… I won’t say more!” Here the candidate immediately drops the penny: “Ah, then that’s the harp sound!”, she says. “Why?” Jauch wants to know in shock. Well, because that’s the only thing that rhymes. It’s answer C, Mr. Jauch.”

Fortunately for Jauch, it was “only” the question of 16,000 euros. Later in the evening, two candidates reached the question of 125,000 euros, but both had to give up. Philipp Schaefer from Düren was one of them. And the research assistant (Jauch: “They’re all nice!”) only had three jokers at his disposal, so he opted for the safety variant.

Jauch was enthusiastic about the 32-year-old candidate, especially because he has a special gift: Schaefer can list all service areas on German autobahns – in the right order. This is of course tested and the candidate passes.

Jauch, highly ambitious, considers whether he can “finish it”. He can – at least from his point of view. During the memorable 1986 World Cup match between Argentina and England, in which Maradona scored the legendary goal with the hand of God, he saw which billboards the soccer star raced past before going off alone.

And indeed: from Camel to Budweiser and from Coca-Cola to Opel, he can actually name them all. “Until the victory celebrations, then he stopped at Gillette!” Jauch concludes that remembering this makes about as much sense as his candidate’s talent.

The grand final of 3 million euros will take place on Friday evening. All candidates who managed to earn 16,000 euros or more in the programs this week are invited.

Jauch will make them offers that they can accept or decline. If a candidate accepts the offer, she must surrender her previously earned money for a previously negotiated amount (which she is allowed to keep in any case), she can play through the question ladder again – and in the best case scenario, release three million euros. However, so far no one has succeeded in this feat.
