forget Dr House! Here you will find real surgical knowledge from Switzerland – on YouTube

The University Hospital Zurich shows free training videos on Google’s video platform and thus arouses great interest.

More than 600,000 people watched training videos from the University Hospital Zurich (USZ) on YouTube. The hospital continues to expand its offerings. It is well received internationally, according to a message on Monday.

“The aim is to improve the training and further education of young surgeons, especially in structurally weak countries.”

Medical students and doctors from more than 100 countries have provided positive feedback on the videos, which include a lecture in English, questions and discussions, the USZ writes.

According to a statement from the university hospital, the presentations highlight the “latest scientific findings” on the topic at hand and follow a unified concept:

From 2023 the program is called Global School of Surgery. “The portal provides an international audience with free access to a carefully curated surgical video curriculum,” said Pierre-Alain Clavien, director of the Department of Visceral and Transplantation Surgery at USZ.

The USZ shows 120 videos from the entire field of general and transplant surgery. The program for further education and training of the local residents was started. The USZ sees the online offer as an opportunity for countries and regions without their own training infrastructure.

“The Global School of Surgery has the potential to sustainably improve the quality of surgical education worldwide.”
