QDH #228: Hey, F. van B.!

QDH #228: Hey, F. van B.!

Dear Huber Quizzers

Last Wednesday evening I met my former fellow student F. from B at a busy bus station in Zurich. We studied sports together more than 20 years ago, but above all we played jass and quizzes.

At the time, F. was part of a quiz group that regularly challenged itself with self-made sports questionnaires.

The questions were killer: “How long did the referee play in the district league match between Dostlukspor Bottrop and BW Wesel in 2007?” That’s how the questions played out in the competition. I got out pretty quickly. First from the quiz group, then from my study.

Now, more than 20 years later, part of my daily work consists of making a quiz. And F. actually has one of maybe 20 jobs in Switzerland where it is an advantage to know how long the referee allowed the referee to replay in Bottrop at the time.

In the sentence: “F.! I was very happy to see you soon, to hear that your quiz group is still there and that you challenge Huber every week. Give my regards to K. van W. and Miss D. and everyone else who are also taking part in the quiz. I hope you’ll join us again today, even though you’re probably busy with work on this memorable Sunday.”

PS: It was 28 minutes. But F. was sure of that.
