19 creepy sea creatures you don’t want to meet on your beach vacation

The major Swiss cities seem virtually deserted at the moment – at least compared to normal. The reason for this is probably the long vacation, many spend the summer by the sea.

For those who can’t be at the sea right now: be happy, because you will be spared one thing: creepy animals from the depths of the oceans.

Let’s start something harmless with this deep sea fish.

A fun fact from Wikipedia: “Due to the low population density, the chances of males and females of the same species finding each other are extremely small. In some species, such as deep-sea frogfish, this has resulted in the dwarf male becoming firmly attached to the female, who is nourished by her bloodstream and is then limited to sperm production.”

Seems drawn by a toddler. Unfortunately that is not the case.

Grenadier fish live in all oceans, except the high Arctic, at a depth of 200 to 6500 meters. Fortunately, depending on the region, there are also optically more beautiful varieties.

Look into my eyes, Klein!

Image

By the way, this is also a grenadier fish. So they are certainly not among our favorite fish.

We’ll never look at a cheeseburger the same way again.

We can’t pinpoint the exact species, so we’ll just call it “fish stick” for now.

A brace would have definitely been worth it.

Image

It should be a puffer fish. With its four large teeth it can crush its prey.

Why on earth would anyone touch something like that without gloves?

Image

We can’t say with 100% certainty because there are 900 different species, but it could be a beetle.

On such a beach holiday you don’t necessarily want to step on something like that.

Did we really want to know that there are also spiders in the water?

People with arachnophobia can rest easy, because despite their name, the woodlouse spider is not counted among the arachnids. However, the bad news is that it has a distribution center in all oceans and a distribution center in the Southern Ocean.

It feels like the blobfish appears in every second Watson ‘Creepy Nature’ story, so of course he shouldn’t be missing from this explicit story.

The blobfish, or Psychrolutes marcidus, is mainly found in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. Fortunately, he lives there at a depth of 600 to 1200 meters.

The boy looks fresh out of prison. 😅

Why does it seem that it can steal your soul?

Gender unfortunately unknown. At least for us.

He has absolutely no reason to smile.

The pale toadfish, or Ambophthalmos angustusm, is related to our blobfish. The species, which can grow up to 30 centimeters long, is found around New Zealand at a depth between 250 and 1000 meters.

We would like to see the bill from the dentist.

The frilled shark can grow up to two meters in length. He has about 300 teeth.

You definitely don’t want to feel that on your ankle when you’re in the water.

Image

It may be a sea cucumber, but we like to learn.

Whether it is not an ancestor of Leela from “Futurama”, we are not sure.

Image

Unfortunately, we couldn’t clearly identify this genus either, hence the horse teeth.

Image

Opinion is divided on the sex of this thing, but everyone agrees it has a parasite.

And speaking of ‘horse teeth’, we can’t think of a better name for this either…

The Quasimodo of fish.

It is said to be a sick halibut.

In case you haven’t had enough, many of the photos are by Russian photographer and fisherman Roman Fedortsov, who posts his sightings on a dedicated Instagram account. You can find the profile here.
