Up to 321 km/h: Tesla unlocks maximum speed

Tesla makes a so-called “Track Pack” available for the Model S Plaid. This makes the e-limousine technically suitable for the circuit. That’s not cheap.

With the Model S, Tesla set a record for standard electric cars on the Nürburgring Nordschleife: in September 2021, it raced around the track in 7:35.579 minutes. It wasn’t until ten months later that Porsche managed to cover the 20.8 kilometers in a Taycan S in 7:33 minutes.

Tesla now wants to bring the successes on the track to the street – with a track package: the Model S Plaid then includes aerodynamic improvements, carbon brakes and cup tires. And it enters new worlds of speed that Tesla had previously only promised to buyers: a maximum speed of 321 km/h should then be possible – no other electric car series is faster. The Model S Plaid is currently allowed to drive at 280 km/h.

Originally, the package was to be launched in 2021. According to Tesla, the late release of the speed limit is due to the fact that the right tires and brakes had to be available first. The whole thing has its price: the track package with carbon brakes and special tires costs a minimum of 13,825 euros, the four tires are available separately for 5,535 euros. The package will be available from June and the parts will be installed in Tesla service centers.

The Tesla Model S Plaid is already available, delivers 1,020 horsepower from three engines and costs CHF 117,490 in the base version. This does not include the cost of the racetrack kit.
