Japanese automaker Nissan is recalling more than 1,000 nearly brand-new electric cars in the United States because the steering wheel could become detached from the steering column. The E-SUV “Ariya” has been affected, as golem.de reports.
According to Nissan’s recall, the steering wheel of the affected 2023 vehicles may not be properly tightened or installed. A steering wheel with a loose or missing bolt can become detached from the steering column, causing loss of control and an increased risk of an accident.
Voluntary recall
The manufacturer received two reports of loose steering wheels between January 30 and February 8, forcing U.S. dealers to inspect the steering wheels on 418 Ariya vehicles. As a precaution, Nissan subsequently decided to voluntarily recall more than 1,000 vehicles, it is said.
No comparable recall is known in Germanyaccording to the trade magazine “Auto, Motor & Sport”.
There is also no corresponding information on the Nissan Switzerland website for recalls.
The US transportation agency NHTSA is investigating two cases of fallen Tesla Model Y steering wheels, it was reported on Wednesday. These are vehicles from model year 2023. However, it is not yet clear whether there will be a major recall at all.
