Peugeot showing more claws

Peugeot continues to work for the brand face. The youngest variant carries the mid-range model 508. The French missed the front LED light signature as if it were a Botox treatment. Peugeot has tripled the already striking vertical light claws to include the claw pattern of the taillights at the front.

Design director Matthias Hossann explains that the lion in the logo is a model for it. “The radical character underlines our technological and feline identity. The ultra-flat headlights and three-claw signature are part of a grille that mixes with the bumper to create a gorgeous front end.” Changes at the rear or interior are more subtle. Driver and front passenger continue to use the infotainment system via a ten-inch touchscreen.

a new plugin

Everything remains the same, even with the drivers. Unlike its recently revamped 3008 and 5008 SUV siblings, the revised 508 doesn’t have mild hybrid drives. There is still a three-cylinder petrol engine and a four-cylinder diesel engine with 130 hp (96 kW) each. Above that are two plug-in hybrid models with system outputs of 180 hp (132 kW) and 225 hp (165 kW). Thus, Peugeot offers the weaker version of the 508.

The 110 hp (81 kW) electric motor is found in the 8-speed automatic, while the battery is located at the rear. The capacity remains the same as before at 12.4 kilowatt-hours, meaning that the range should remain at around 50 kilometers. Minor changes are possible, because the new front probably changes the aerodynamics, so Peugeot has not yet commented on the range of add-ons.

All-wheel drive and station wagon available

The top model remains the 360 hp (265 kW) 508 PSE, which again gets a new face. The Sport model is also a plug-in hybrid. It offers all-wheel drive thanks to a second electric motor with 112 hp (83 kW) on the rear axle. All plug-in models of the 508 have a single-phase 3.7 kW charger as standard. A two-phase 7.4 kW charger is optionally available, where the battery is 100 percent charged in 100 minutes.

Peugeot continues to offer the revised 508 as a sedan and station wagon. With a constant loading volume of 487 to 1537 liters, the 4.75-metre-long sedan is already very spacious. Loading volume rises to between 530 and 1780 liters in the SW station wagon, which is four centimeters longer.

The refreshed Peugeot 508 will go on sale from summer. Prices for the sedan will likely remain at the current level (sedan from 47,840 francs, SW station wagon from 49,480 francs) and will start at around 50,000 francs for the sedan.
