Resistance against Daniele Ganser is growing – “not an innocent conspiracy entertainer”

In Germany – now also in the city of Nuremberg – resistance to his public lectures is growing: in May the controversial Swiss historian wants to speak in a conference center there.

Daniele Ganser wants to speak on May 10 as part of his lecture tour at the Meistersingerhalle in Nuremberg. Subject: «Why did the war break out in Ukraine?»

Anyone who comes into contact with the controversial historian quickly realizes that he sees a large part of the blame in the US. In his announcing text for the Nuremberg event, the United States appears six times – Russia, on the other hand, only in this one sentence: “Together with Russia, China, France and Great Britain, the US has a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.”

What happened?

There is opposition to the traveling Swiss in many German cities – the Westfalenhallen in Dortmund even recently canceled its contract with the organizers of Ganser. That is also desirable The Bavarian Commissioner for Anti-Semitism Ludwig Spaenle (CSU), as he tells the “Nürnberger Nachrichten”:

“Even in a democratic state where freedom of speech is a valuable asset, democratic spaces must be defended. Conspiracy ideologues only pursued the one goal of dividing society and ultimately destroying democracy.”

Spaenle receives approval from Julia Obertreis, Eastern Europe expert at the University of Erlangen. In the “Nürnberger Nachrichten”, Ganser calls it a “one-man company” that ignores “fundamental facts such as the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the suffering and death of the Ukrainian (civilian) population”.

Where’s the problem?

Jo-Achim Hamburger of the Jewish community in Nuremberg accuses Ganser of downplaying the crimes of the Nazis and the Holocaust – “which is why this person is not an innocent conspiracy entertainer”.

Lecture in Dortmund cancelled
Daniele Ganser may not appear in Dortmund at the end of March. The contract with the controversial Swiss historian’s events company had been terminated, Watson media partner T-Online reported on February 5, citing a message from the portal “Ruhr24”.

After the event became known, massive public pressure arose against the city of Dortmund and the Westfalenhallen. The local GroenLinks wanted to put the subject on the agenda during the council meeting of February 9, representatives of the Left, CDU and SPD, Mayor Thomas Westphal had expressed their support for the cancellation of the lecture. It is still unclear whether Ganser will be discussed in Thursday’s meeting and how the rejection will be legally justified.

Daniele Ganser, a self-described historian and “peace researcher”, has been credited by several experts with putting the Holocaust in perspective and using anti-Semitic clichés. The German daily TAZ once called him a ‘conspiracy guru’, writes T-Online.

Ganser accuses the US government of at least complicity, if not involvement, in the attacks of September 11, 2001. In a documentary about the Corona measures in Germany, Ganser drew comparisons to the Third Reich. The social psychologist Pia Lamberty therefore accuses him of trivializing the Holocaust: “The logic of his statements is, if you think about it carefully: the unvaccinated are the new Jews.” That too is a form of anti-Semitism.

The Eastern European researcher Klaus Gestwa from Tübingen described Ganser as “extremely dangerous” in a conversation with T-Online. E use similar methods to the equally controversial former ARD journalist Gabriele-Krone Schmalz.

“Despite the high admission fees, he fills large halls during his lectures, so that with headphones in front of a big screen he can be celebrated as a savvy marketing expert of a global corporation by his devoutly listening followers as an interpreter of the world.” .”

It is unclear whether there will also be a cancellation in Nuremberg. Unlike in Dortmund, the city, as operator of the Meistersingerhalle, sees itself unable to cancel Ganser – there is no legal possibility to do so, city spokesman Andreas Franke explained to the “Nürnberger Nachrichten”. According to Franke, there are no indications of imminent criminal offenses at Ganser.
