The University of Zurich has fallen victim to a cyber attack. The university announced this on Thursday in an e-mail to students and staff that Watson received. They are therefore requested to change their password immediately.
The attack is “serious”, it says, the perpetrators “appear extremely professional”. The measures were therefore immediately tightened. The cantonal police is also involved. But you don’t know that data would be encrypted or tapped.
According to the University of Zurich, such attacks on universities are not uncommon at the moment. In German-speaking countries, several educational and health institutions have reportedly fallen victim to such attacks in recent weeks. Various IT services had to be shut down for a long period of time. This has not been the case at UZH so far. However, restrictions should be expected at any time, it is said.
